The Project

SALTO stands for SALzburg Together against Obesity. It is a regional prevention initiative starting from the setting of kindergarten and reaching out into the community. We want to get children enthusiastic about eating healthier and being physically more active - with the help of kindergarten teachers and parents.

The project is based on the, World Health Organisation (WHO) accepted, EPODE method and is characterised by the fact that all relevant stakeholders, - starting with children, parents and care givers, and extending - to those involved in politics and science, are equally involved. Thus, SALTO rests on a solid scientific foundation and pools existing resources perfectly. This is important because lifelong healthy habits are only developed in a health-enhancing environment.

Find out more about the project through our Video (German language). If you cannot watch it on this site, please change to our SALTO Youtube-Channel.

Did you know...

...that children seldom outgrow "puppy fat"? Most overweight children also become overweight adolescents and adults.

...many kindergartens already implement healthy nutrition and physical activity at their institutions? Precisely because of this fact they are the ideal partners for SALTO.

...that children often model themselves on parents regarding nutrition and physical activity? This is why SALTO is also particularly addressing parents.

... that already every second to third child is overweight? Consequently, it is about time to counteract this trend with SALTO.
